GIFTS THAT GIVE BACK TO THE ENVIRONMENT

With more people focused on preserving the environment for future generations, Coastcare has produced a range of Christmas gifts designed to give back to the environment.

These gifts support various marine projects carried out by Coastcare volunteers, from protecting endangered species, to freeing marine animals from shark nets and removing waste from our oceans.

Available as cards, certificates or environmentally friendly e-cards, there are 19 gift ideas ranging from $5 to $1000. There are also two free gift options, which can be shared with friends and family to raise awareness of marine environmental issues.

For those who would like to contribute directly, there is a range of great gift ideas to suit every budget, from just $5 to plant mangroves to $1000 to help save a beach! Other gifts include breeding and releasing sea horses into the ocean for $30, whilst $50 will help protect the threatened whale shark; $150 will assist with rehabilitation for an injured seal; and $500 will help to save a whale.

Australia’s coasts and critical aquatic habitats are significant environmental assets that are fundamentally important to the Australian lifestyle, economy and to our future. We have more coastline per inhabitant than any other country – and most things we do on land have an impact on costal marine habitats.

Few people realise that many of the bird rescues, water quality improvement projects, marine life surveys, clean ups, habitat restoration and even marine life rehabilitation projects in Australia are carried out by Coastcarers - volunteers.
